Teachers, I need some help in teaching "Of Mice & Men" - Steinbeck?

Can you give some creative ideas for these 9th graders? I'm a sub and I'd like to do something more creative... Maybe like ask them what they think it'd be like to be mentally handicapped? What compulsions are acceptable and why aren't others?
