John steinbeck and the fitzgerald's Great Gatsby?

Hello. I haven't read Grapes of Wrath, but I have read other Steinbeck novels. The guy is fantastic. I have read The Great Gatsby before, but it has been a while. The main theme of The Great Gatsby has to do with the american dream. People used to believe that America was some promise land where you can achieve anything. Fitzgerald shows doubt in the American dream by showing us Gatsby. Gatsby is this really rich bootlegger(twist) and then kills him off at the very end. Gatsby really had to die for the novel to work.
